It’s Always Better to Be Truthful, Even If It Hurts Feelings
It’s no secret I tend to speak with no filter. If you ask me what I think of your song, your shoes or your new girlfriend, I’m going to tell you the truth. This ability to speak with no filter has never got me into trouble, even though some of my friends seem to pray for the day “I get whats coming to me”.
A few months ago I was interviewing a rapper and after the show he asked me what I thought of his new songs, I told him they sounded like you wrote them in two minutes and we’re just trying to appeal to the mainstream. I, of course, didn’t say it so eloquently as I was inebriated but I did give a passionate speech about how you should strive to add to the culture rather than saturate it. This rapper looked a little upset and I just left feeling really bad. I thought to myself, damn did I go too far?
The remarkable thing (and this speaks to this artist’s character) is that he called me five minutes later and asked if I wanted to help write songs for his next project.
The point is: Think of all the opportunities you could be missing by not being truthful to yourself and to others.

I’m close to 60% finished making Man of the Year and I’m a little stressed out as I want it to be as perfect as I can possibly make it. All through my life I’ve been on the search for perfection, knowing I will never make something absolutely 100% perfect. With this album, and the team I’m working with it (Shout out to Neo, Andre, etc) I think we just might come close.
