Toronto rapper Drega drops the visuals to “Overcome” of his Man of the Year Ep (out now). In May, Drega asked fans to choose a song of Man of the Year that they felt needed a video. While it was a toss up between many songs, “Overcome” eventually overcame.
The Alex Young directed clip stars teen actor, Hatim Hassanali, a victim of high school bullying who suffers terribly under a high school bully. “In the song I touch on so many times I’ve overcame, I wanted the video to be symbolic of a specific time I had to overcome bullying”, states Drega.
Check this radio friendly sounding Nigerian duo twins, called P-Square. They have since ’07 released two albums which have reportedly sold 12 million units!
If you saw Easy A or are just up on your shit, you’ll know this little ditty by Sweet Thing called “Change of Seasons”. Can I get a being Canadian FTW!
Angerville dropped a new video today featuring rapper Alex Dimes. My big little homie (and official deejay of Drega) Dj Andre 905 gets a big cameo in this one.
After having a lot of beer and a bunch of other illicit substances, I bring you the POWER video. The video is inspired by India and Africa’s skin whitening cream industry which tries to get dark skinned females to basically bleach their skin in hopes they can be as “beautiful” as Beyonce. Here’s an actual commercial. Quite frankly, I’m disgusted.
The POWER video was directed by myself as well as by two gentlemen by the name of Paco and Jama. They are part of a production team more formally known as the Showboiz (and make awesome beats!)
The video stars a ravishing singer/songwriter, Nicole Faye Robinson, who is brilliant as the “scared black girl” who realizes her true power at the video’s climax (or does she?). I don’t want to give away anymore as you will simply have to watch.
You’ll also see an integral cameo by producer Neo Tempus who is handling the bulk of production for my upcoming project Man of the Year which drops December 14th, 2010.
I went to India for three weeks in October and while I was there shot the video for “Hottest Goan In The Hood”. I wanted to create a video that shows the vastly different areas of India from the slums, jungle, city and desert. I do wish I had taken more shots of the poorer areas but I felt I didn’t want to be overly exploitative. Anyway, in the above video you’ll find shots from Mumbai, New Delhi, Goa, Jaisalmer, and Jaipur.
As for my performance I know I’m smiling way too much, but it was hard for me not to think like “I’m in a dessert rapping…this is insane”.
